Exploring Military History with the Peterborough Military History Group

A Community Dedicated to Preserving and Celebrating Military Heritage

The Peterborough Military History Group is a community of like-minded people, passionate about military history.

Members interests vary from collectors of military memorabilia, to scale modellers and those who are simply interested in the subject and enjoy reading and learning about it.

We are interested in military history from the earliest times up to the modern day and are always keen to welcome new members.

2024 Exhibition

A great day was had by all on Saturday 2nd November when we held our annual exhibition at the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. (See the Exhibition page for more pictures).

Members put on thirteen different displays which included one from the Crowland Buffalo Association and one from the Cambridgeshire Branch of the Western Front Association. We are very grateful to these two organisations for agreeing to attend our exhibition. Visitors showed a great deal of interest in these two stands.

Other displays included models, badges, weapons, documents, First World War relics, Second World War Home Front items and posters. Thanks to Geoff for manning the Bargain Stall which raised a very respectable £82.50 for Group funds.

Thanks also to the museum staff, in particular Kerry Green and Eric Hitchcock, and of course to all of our members who put so much hard work into presenting their displays for the enjoyment of our visitors.

The museum was very busy during the day, with lots of people interested in all of the displays. There is no doubt we spread the word about our Group and we will work harder now to make the event even better next year.

About Peterborough Military History Group

Discover the Fascinating Stories and Legacies of the Past

We meet at the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery in Priestgate, Peterborough, PE1 1LF, on the second Wednesday of every month, 7.30pm to 9.00pm. We also hold an annual exhibition at the Museum on one day a year, when members can bring out their collections and show them to the public. Here, we also have the Bargain Stall, where members bring their spare model kits, books and various items from their collections to help in fundraising. This year the exhibition takes place on Saturday 2nd November 2024.

Each meeting includes a guest speaker, sometimes one of our own members, sometimes an invited guest speaker. We have a refreshment stall where tea, coffee and cakes can be purchased which goes into the Group funds. Some members also bring books in to sell at minimal prices so you never know what you might come away with. We have members of all ages and are always looking to recruit more. A monthly Newsletter is emailed to all members and contributions to this are also welcomed.
