Exploring Military History with the Peterborough Military History Group

A Community Dedicated to Preserving and Celebrating Military Heritage

The Peterborough Military History Group is a community of like-minded people, passionate about military history.

Members interests vary from collectors of military memorabilia, to scale modellers and those who are simply interested in the subject and enjoy reading and learning about it.

We are interested in military history from the earliest times up to the modern day and are always keen to welcome new members.

About Peterborough Military History Group

Discover the Fascinating Stories and Legacies of the Past

We meet at the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery in Priestgate, Peterborough, PE1 1LF, on the second Wednesday of every month, 7.30pm to 9.30pm. We have an annual subscription fee of £8.00 and each month we ask those attending the meeting to drop £2.00 into the subs box. We also hold an annual exhibition at the Museum on one day a year, when members can bring out their collections and show them to the public. Here, we also have the Bargain Stall, where members bring their spare model kits, books and various items from their collections to help in fundraising. This year the exhibition takes place on Saturday 15th November 2025.

Each meeting includes a guest speaker, (see schedule of this year's speakers below), sometimes one of our own members, sometimes an invited guest speaker. We have a refreshment stall where tea, coffee and cakes can be purchased which goes into the Group funds. Some members also bring books in to sell at minimal prices so you never know what you might come away with. We have members of all ages and are always looking to recruit more. A monthly Newsletter is emailed to all members and contributions to this are also welcomed.

Peterborough Scale Model Club Show

The Peterborough Scale Model Club held its annual show at the Stamford Welland Academy on Sunday 2nd March. For the first time our Group had been offered two tables on which to present a display and hopefully advertise our presence, with a view to attracting a few more members.

Three members from our Group, David Gray, Andy Lingard and Terry Edge attended and put on an excellent display (right). The show itself was amazing, with modellers and dealers from all over the country attending. Our own modellers, Keith Boucher, Phil Allenby and Jo Fedorak, who are also members of the PSMC were also in attendance. The standard of models at the show was unbelievably high and had to be seen to be believed. (See more on the Blog page).

We have been invited to put on displays at the two shows below

Peterborough Militaria Collectors Fairs

Fellow member Terry Edge has organised this event and has kindly offered us a table in order to promote the group.

As stated, the next event takes place on Sunday 6th April at the Royal British Legion Club, Yaxley, near Peterborough.

I think it is very important to try and attend any local event if it helps us to promote our group and reach out to the community to let people know more about us. We should always be on the look-out for ways to increase our membership at any opportunity.

Peterborough Wargames Club
Show

I met the Peterborough Wargames Club at their stand at the Peterborough Scale Model Club Show recently and they invited us to put on a display (2 x 6ft tables), at their show at the Cresset in September this year.

I accepted their invitation and invited them to display at our exhibition in November, and they confirmed that they would.

This is another opportunity to meet people with different interests and and hopefully encourage visitors and exhibitors to take an interest in our group.
